An unpleasant odour develops when vacuuming, or dust is emitted by the appliance.

This may have a range of causes: your appliance is equipped with a so-called additional air regulator located on the handle, which is designed to allow you to reduce the suction power quickly so that objects are not vacuumed up inadvertently. However, during normal vacuuming, this additional air regulator must always be completely closed in order to guarantee full suction power. You may not have assembled the vacuum cleaner correctly after removing it from the packaging. Check that all the parts are secured and adjusted properly. To do this, please consult the operating instructions and the quick start guide. You may have failed to replace or close parts of the vacuum cleaner correctly which you had opened or removed in order to clean the filter or change the dust bag. Check that all the parts are secured and adjusted properly. To do this, please consult the operating instructions and the quick start guide. The dust bag may have burst. Replace this with a new one. The dust bag may not have been changed for a long period, or the dust container has not been emptied and cleaned, causing the contents to develop an unpleasant odour. Change the dust bag immediately, or empty and clean the dust container. To do this, please consult the operating instructions and the quick start guide. The filters may require cleaning. To do this, please consult the operating instructions and the quick start guide.

How can I vacuum in an energy-saving, environmentally-friendly manner?

There are several ways to do this: Before starting to vacuum, remove obstacles you would otherwise need to vacuum around laboriously. This ensures that the vacuum cleaner operates for shorter periods. Your appliance is equipped with a so-called additional air regulator located on the handle, which is designed to allow you to reduce the suction power quickly so that objects are not vacuumed up inadvertently. However, during normal vacuuming, this additional air regulator must always be completely closed in order to guarantee full suction power. If your appliance has a suction power regulator, set this according to the task in hand. For example, considerably lower suction power is required to vacuum hard floors than for carpets. Vacuum the surface in question in parallel strips which should ideally not overlap. If you take a disorganised approach to your vacuuming, you may vacuum certain areas several times. Observe the maintenance intervals. Remove soiling from your vacuum cleaner on a regular basis. In the process, check the floor nozzles, telescopic tube and suction hose. An unrestricted airflow is still the most effective way to vacuum. Switch off the vacuum cleaner during breaks (e.g. when changing the nozzles).

What can’t I vacuum up?

Do not use the vacuum cleaner to remove burning, glowing or smouldering particles such as hot ash, charcoal, wood charcoal, cigarettes or similar. This may cause fires! Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum people, animals or plants. Do not vacuum any items of clothing currently being worn on the body. Do not vacuum near the heads of individuals. These actions may result in injuries. Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum toner (such as that found in printers or photocopiers) or other explosive or highly flammable substances. This may cause explosions or fires. Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum liquids, carpet cleaners or foam. This may result in a short circuit within the appliance. Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum sharp, pointed objects, such as shards of glass, rubble, drawing pins etc. This can damage the appliance. Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum fine dust such as stone dust, plaster, cement or similar particulate matter. This clogs the filters and impairs the suction power.

When should you clean the vacuum cleaner’s motor protection and exhaust filters?

In the case of bagged vacuum cleaners, the motor protection filter is located directly behind the dust bag and immediately in front of the motor. In the case of bagless vacuum cleaners, it is usually part of the dust container. Check the motor protection filter each time you change the dust bag or empty the dust container. This filter should be cleaned if visibly soiled. If it is made of foam material, it can be rinsed thoroughly and must be left to dry completely afterwards. If it is made of paper ribs (HEPA), it should not be cleaned with water or allowed to get wet. Instead, brush it off thoroughly with a soft brush. The exhaust filter is located at the point where the exhaust air leaves the appliance. This may be on the top, back or bottom of the appliance, or even in one of the wheels. The exhaust filter does not require checking as frequently – when unpleasant odours develop at the latest. In the event that you identify any soiling, the cleaning procedure for the exhaust filter is identical to that of the motor protection filter: if it is made of foam material, it can be rinsed thoroughly and must be left to dry completely afterwards. If it is made of paper ribs (HEPA), it should not be cleaned with water or allowed to get wet. Instead, brush it off thoroughly with a soft brush.

The appliance suddenly stops vacuuming, what should I do?

Your vacuum cleaner contains an integrated function which protects the appliance from overheating. This is activated as soon as the temperature in the appliance’s interior grows too high. In this case, switch off the appliance and disconnect it from the mains. Look for the cause of overheating (either the dust bag needs changing, the dust container needs emptying, the filters require cleaning or a blockage has formed somewhere which requires eliminating). Check the tube, nozzles and hose when attempting to locate a possible blockage. Now wait 45 minutes. You can now switch on the cooled-off appliance once more.
