What is a Defroster function, and what is a Warm-up function on a toaster?
When using the defrost function, toast is first gently defrosted before it is given its desired browning. The toasting time is therefore reduced by the time that would usually be required for defrosting. The warming-up function serves to re-heat slices of toast that have been toasted already, but without adding to the browning degree.
How does the type of bread used have an effect on the toasting result?
In a toaster, day-old, dry bread darkens faster than fresh bread. For brown bread, always adjust the browning control to a higher setting than for toasting white bread. Variations in bread type, humidity content and thickness of the slices result in different degrees of browning. The bread should therefore be kept in a sealed wrapping.
